Task-1The graph shows information about the percentage of four different materials recycled in a country over a period of 28 years between 1982 and 2010. Overall, what stands out from the graph is that the recycling of aluminium cans showed an upward trend throughout the period. Another interesting point to note is that paper was the most recycled item throughout the whole period. 65% of paper and cardboard was recycled in 1982. This figure increased slightly over the next four years and then kept fluctuating until 1990. In 1994 as much as 80% of this item was recycled. Afterwards this quantity decreased gradually to 70% in 2010. The recycling of glass containers showed a similar trend. While in 1982, 50% of them were recycled, this figure declined over the next 8 years to 40%. Afterwards, the recycling of glass containers again picked up and in 2010 as much as 60% of them were recycled. The recycling of aluminium cans began in 1986.While only about 5% of them were recycled in that year, they picked up pace over the years and in 2010 almost 45% of the aluminium cans were recycled. Plastic recycling began in 1990 and it remained the least recycled item (less than 10%) throughout the given period.
Task-2
People hold different opinions about whether a car or a bicycle is the best form of transport in a city. I believe within the city center a bicycle is best, but a car is better if someone must travel further.
On the one hand, it is commonly thought that a car is the best option for transport in a city as it offers great comfort in terms of seating, air conditioning and other features. A further reason for people preferring cars is that they can easily transport a number of people at the same time and is especially safe for children. Cars are, moreover, time effective. being able to cover long distances in less time.
On the other hand, bicycles are healthier options for getting around a city center according to some. The majority of people lead a sedentary life style with little or no exercise which can cause serious health problems. This is often due to the lack of time available in their daily routine for exercise. By using a bicycle to travel, people will get the necessary physical activities without any inconvenience.
Finally, in my opinion, bicycles are certainly an asset in a city center where traffic jams are frequent. They can pass through congestion with minimal effort and offer health benefits. However, if a person lives in the suburbs, the most logical option would be a car for traveling longer distances into the city center, particularly with more than one person to transport.
In conclusion, both bicycles and cars offer advantages depending on whether the travel is only with the city center or outside the center. However, for families traveling together, a car will always be the best option.
