Dear Mr Albert,
I am Rebecca Paula, a tenant at your Park view Residence, writing to let you know that last night's storm broke a couple of windows at my apartment and those need to be fixed immediately.
I reside at the flat 4B2 on the eighth floor with my family for the last one and a half years. The relentless storm and a heavy downpour last night damaged many dwellings in our area and it is unfortunate that a couple of windows in my apartment has been shattered. The electricity line is disrupting since then and the continuous chill wind is freely flowing in my apartment. This has become unbearable, especially for my mother-in-law and six years old daughter.
I want you to send someone to inspect how bad the broken windows are and how challenging it is to stay inside the flat. Please replace the windows as quickly as possible. You can contact a local vendor who provides such repair works. I will assist you in whichever way possible.
Yours sincerely,
Sahaj

School curriculums may vary from school to school, but their primary objective is the same everywhere which is to educate and enlighten students. However, some people claim that school should focus more on job-oriented subjects rather than teaching traditional ones like arts and history. I personally disagree with this view and believe that traditional subjects are just as important as skill-oriented subjects are.
To begin with, ‘job-oriented subject’ is itself an inexplicit term. Some would say that subjects that enhance practical skills like computing or gardening are job-oriented subjects, but no one can assure that all students in a class would become computer engineers and specialists in planting and gardening. That is why forcing pupils to study subjects that they do not feel interested in would bring negative results.
Furthermore, schools are meant to nurture young students’ creativity, foster their talent to let them explore their true potential. From this perspective, imposing job-related subjects is like killing the inner soul of the future generation. Finally, if schools can bring diversity among students and inform them about different perspectives of life, the students would themselves choose their career and transcend in future. So there is no need to create a robotic generation with a particular skill only.
Arts and history are as much important as any science and technical subjects are. The study of history empowers us to be prepared for the future and learn from our past mistakes. Similarly, arts and other traditional subjects allow us to learn to appreciate life. We revere Van Gauge and Leonardo da Vinci as much as we admire Sir Isaac Newton and Einstein. The world needs great artists and historians no less than it needs scientists and technicians.
To conclude, schools should equally focus on traditional subjects and skill-oriented subjects and nurture students’ hidden potential to prepare the future generation to become leaders, not corporate slaves.

The line graph compares the duration of national landline, international landline and cell phone calls made by citizens of Denmark between 1995 and 2004. Generally speaking, use of mobile phones by Danes increased remarkably after mid-2000 while the use of national fixed lines declined steeply after 2001.
As the diagram suggests, national landline calls made by Danes accounted for almost 12 million minutes in 1995 at which point Danes dialled about 6 million minutes of international calls and less than one million minutes' call using mobile phones. The duration of conversation made by mobile phones gradually grew till the mid-2000, after which it skyrocketed till the mid-2004. Danes made more than 2 million minutes' mobile calls during 2000 while it soared to approximately 12 million minutes in the mid-2004. Interestingly, the popularity of mobile phones cut the duration of calls made by the national fixed lines but the use of landlines for international calls slowly rose over the time. During 2004, more than 7 million minutes of international call were made by Danes which was one million higher than that of 1995 using fixed lines. Finally, local landline calls went as high as 15 million minutes in the mid-2001 but after a steady decline it went down as low as 8 million minutes in 2004.

Well, I have so many important events in my life and I can remember many of them. However, I would like to talk about the most auspicious ceremony of my life, my marriage, which happened in December 2012.
When I got married, I was 26 years old. Since I belong to a traditional and orthodox Hindu family, it's more or less like a religious and family festival. We invited most of our friends and relatives and the celebrations started three days prior to the event. We had to arrange all the amenities to the guests who came by; such as hotels to stay, food and drinking arrangements and we had to make sure all of them were pretty satisfied. However, another biggest challenge I faced was the raising of the fund for the occasion. Fortunately, everything went well and the day is still a wonderful experience to think about.
On the flip side, the greatest reason why that day is rather important is because, ever since then, I witnessed a dramatic change in the way I live. I had to become more responsible and after all, I got someone to share my life together. I gradually realised, the biggest part in life is to become shoulders and shade, to someone who is important to us, especially at the time of crisis. I would like to conclude by saying that now I am happily living with my parents, wife and son, and my marriage was the first significant step towards this journey
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to inform you that I am a regular commuter of the bus route from “Westland to Parklane” for the last one year. Recently, I have noticed a few problems with the bus service, and the travelers are being affected because of these.
Let me explain to you that from the last week, the morning bus didn’t show up on time at the designated station. As a result, I arrived late at the office and this problem is becoming persistent. Furthermore, yesterday the bus didn’t stop at its usual station despite my repeated signals and I was constrained to take a taxi to get to my destination. What surprises me even further that there is no change of bus schedule announced either on your website or on the bus station.
In addition to this, the cleanliness situation is deteriorated as compared to past. Perhaps, the drive is not taking the bus to the service station and driving on the route without getting it serviced. The dirty condition of the floor and seats make the passengers uncomfortable which might be bad for the reputation of your company.
I would request you to kindly direct your services staff to ensure strict adherence to the timing and also ensure clean/service the buses before driving on the route.
Thank you for your consideration
Yours faithfully,
Sahaj
Health is a fundamental right of every human being. Some people argue that every nation should provide at least basic healthcare for free. I agree with this view. By investing in public health, the government can ensure that even the most disadvantaged sections of the society have access to medical care and treatment.
Although their number can vary from country to country, the truth is that there are poor people in all countries. A free public healthcare system is essential to cater to their healthcare needs. If the government runs hospitals and healthcare centres where it provides free healthcare and health information, everyone will be able to live a healthy life. Since health is wealth investing in public healthcare is a wise decision for any country. Healthy people are more productive and contribute to the development of the country. Also, by providing free healthcare, the government can prevent epidemics from spreading. This is crucial for the normal functioning of any country.
Of course, the government may not be able to provide advanced or specialist healthcare for free. Such treatments are highly expensive and if the government decides to fund them, it can be a huge burden on the public exchequer. Hence, depending on the financial situation of the country, only the poorest people need be given such treatments for free and there is no harm in charging a nominal or affordable free from the rest of the population. Also, it should be remembered that a lot of expensive medical interventions can be avoided if the disease is diagnosed and treated in the initial stages. For example, in the initial stages diabetes is not an expensive disease to treat and basic healthcare is sufficient; however, if it is not diagnosed or treated, it can lead to complications like renal failure, cardiac arrest or stroke which requires expensive surgeries. In other words, by providing basic healthcare for free, the government can prevent many health complications from arising. To conclude, the biggest wealth of any nation is its people and hence investing in their health by offering them free healthcare is important for any government. Depending on their healthcare budget nations should determine what treatments they can provide for free. In any case, the basic healthcare must be free for all.
The graph compares the growth in the percentage of the population living in urban areas in six different regions of the world.
According to the chart, between 1950 and 2007 the percentage of the population living in cities in Latin America and the Caribbean almost doubled, from 42% to 76%, whereas in Europe it only increased by 21%. However, in Europe over half the people already lived in cities in 1950.
When we compare the projected increases in Asia and Europe by 2050 we see that in Asia the percentage will continue to grow at the same speed, with a further increase of 25%, whereas in Europe the change will be slower than before, increasing by only 12%. By 2050, the vast majority (around 90%) of people in Latin America, the Caribbean and North America will live in cities. Even in Africa, more than half the population (62%) will live in urban areas by then.

Many artists or football players claim that their talent is of genetic origin. They did not have to learn music or sport to become that talented. Having said that, a growing number of people believe they any child can be the best chess player or the fastest swimmer in the world as long as he receives the right teaching and proper direction. In this essay, I will look at both sides of the argument and give my opinion.
First and foremost, many believe that any child can be a genius one. It is only about how much his parents are paying attention to his needs and what do they do to develop these hobbies. For example, a psychology professor agreed with his wife to raise their children as the books of development and psychology say, and now their daughter is the second best chess player in the world.
In my view, it all starts from home when a mother tries to show her baby various options and different areas of play. Therefore, he will identify the available components around him and try to discover his own interests. As the children grow up, they need continuous support and encouragement to keep his certain hobby, such as music, more developed. This will not happen without professional help to have the famous talented artist at the end. On the contrary, there is a common belief that many celebrities are famous because they were born with specific talents not because they were taught to practice these talents.
To sum up, I strongly believe that either born talented or not, any person can be whatever he wants only by the continuous hard work and practice, not by genetics.

According to the essay types (Learn what are the IELTS essay types) use one of the following connective words/ linking phrases to write down your opinion However remember that if the question does not ask you to give your opinion but to compare advantages and disadvantages, then you should not strongly express your opinion. Opinion should only be written for opinion essays.
In my opinion...
You should say:
and explain why you think this is an unpopular opinion.
Well, that's an intriguing topic and I am delighted that I have been given a chance to talk about something I feel deeply but can't discuss very often.
The obvious and yet very unpopular opinion I want to talk about is how our police and special security forces have been given an autocratic power to get away with their misconducts and oftentimes serious crimes. I am not talking about one or two corrupt cops and their discrete horrendous acts, but about the whole system that helps them get away with it.
Police and special forces are meant to protect ordinary people and their property and lives and maintain peace and harmony in our society by acting lawfully. They are also a part of society and they should be made responsible for any crime they commit. But, the legislative system and the existing policies make it really tough to hold them responsible and discriminate when it comes to ensuring justice. Police, in our country and many other countries, go unpunished for their crimes but ordinary citizens are convicted swiftly for the same crime. It's like a single country with dual policy and that's something I believe is totally unfair and unjust.
I have been holding this unpopular opinion for more than ten years. The first time a corrupt cop killed an innocent boy in our neighbourhood over a false charge of extortion and got away with it, I started to believe that something is wrong in our system. Despite the media attention and demonstration from ordinary citizens, the same policeman is now working in a different department with the police and seems like have been promoted for his crime!
I have shared my opinion with a few of my friends and their opinions are mostly against these discriminatory policies and system. My uncle is a retired policeman and when I discussed it with him, to my surprise, his opinion accords with mine.
This is an unpopular opinion because people don't want to talk about it, let alone do something to break the corrupt system. They either believe that they can't do anything about it or feel that police personnel are above the law and should be granted special privileges. Their opinion is often biased because they consider it a political issue rather than a social or human right issue.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?
I am writing to City Evening College in reference to an advertisement I saw in The Vancouver Sun on May 14th for language teachers at your college.
I am interested in teaching Korean and Korean Cookery. I have seen that your guide for last term does not include these courses, but I understand there are now large numbers of second and third-generation Koreans living in this part of the city who may be keen to learn more about their language and culture.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree and a teaching diploma. I hold special qualifications in language teaching and cookery. I was a science teacher in Korea, but moved to San Francisco in 2010. There, I taught Korean for Beginners and Korean Cookery at two community colleges. The language course assumed students had no prior knowledge of Korean. It gave them simple everyday language, as well as recognition of the alphabet. The cookery course focused on easy meal preparation and the art of pickling, or kim chi.
In Vancouver, I could teach the same courses as previously, or we could devise new ones, depending on what the college considered its market to be.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Sahaj
More than one-tenth of the global population suffers from some sort of psychological issues and yet mental illness gets far less priority than it deserves. Minor psychological issues are often ignored by the family while severe cases are inappropriately treated only to tag them as madmen. There is no denying that mental illness, compared to physical diseases, does not get proper care and acceptance from society all around the world.
To begin with, the number of general hospitals and the specialist doctors and nurses devoted to treating diseases of our body is overwhelmingly higher than the healthcare centre and staffs allocated for mental complexities. Someone just needs to walk a few blocks to notice a hospital in any city. However, this is not the case for clinics that deal with patients’ mental issues. This is huge discrimination when World Health Organization clearly outlines the number of patients who need psychotherapists, mental support and treatment for their psychological intricacies.
Moreover, social views towards a physically sick child are different than an autistic child. When the parents openly discuss the sickness of the former one, the latter one tries to hide their children from being mistreated. This raises a serious question of moral integrity and social norm towards people who need special care. Due to the astigmatism of our social and healthcare system, we have so many cases of mental issues which go untreated. When each county increases its budget to research for deadly diseases, there is scarcely any budget allocation for preventing suicides. For instance, the USA allocate a lion share of its budget for the healthcare sector, but there is no separate allocation for preventing self-destruction, as this is not considered an illness at all.
To conclude, the time has come for us to change the old dogma about psychological problems and understand that proper treatment for psychosocial patients is as much important as treating the physically ill people.

The bar chart shows information about people’s drinking behavior by age group in the US. Several trends are evident.
The highest proportion of those who never drink (nearly two-thirds) was in the 16 to 24 years group. The proportion tended to decrease with age. Only 40 per cent of people aged 65 to 74 had never drink.
On the other hand, the percentage of those who had quit drinking tended to increase with age. Only 5 per cent of those in the youngest age group (16 to 24) were ex-drinkers, as opposed to roughly 40 per cent of those aged 65 to 75.
The percentage of those classed as heavy drinkers also showed a distinct pattern. People in middle age (35 to 54) tended to be the heaviest drinkers – approximately 13 per cent of the total. A relatively small proportion of those in the youngest age group, and an even smaller percentage of those in the oldest group (roughly 3 per cent) drink heavily.
Overall, age appears to be a significant factor in patterns of drinking behavior.

You should say:
and explain how you felt about hearing the conversation.
I always try my best not to overhear any conversation whether they come from a stranger or the people, I know. In fact, I consider that doing such a thing is generally the characteristic of a nosy person, and I have set a standard for myself not to be nosy at any time. But, unfortunately, sticking to this standard just may not be easy, when you are in a public place, and when strangers around you talk about all sorts of things, just as I couldn’t do it on a few occasions.
Anyway, it wasn’t like I was actually trying to overhear the conversation of that stranger when I was sitting at a food court of a shopping mall and enjoying some gourmet foods about a few months ago. Rather, I felt like the stranger, talking over his smartphone, was actually trying to attract attention from other people around him by boasting about how he tricked one of his fellow co-workers to cover for him at his work by making up some fabricated stories (I could call them just some “lies” in plain English).
The conversation had continued for almost 15 minutes, which provided complete details to the person on the other end as to how the stranger was planning to use his “holidays” into finding some real estate properties in another city instead of actually seeing his “imaginary” seriously sick uncle. At one point of his conversation, I even felt like moving away from the stranger after giving him some clues on how people around him were actually listening to his conversation, but I decided against it and just wanted to finish my food as soon as possible and leave that place.
Anyway, I felt a bit awkward and also embarrassed at the same time because I overheard a conversation which was quite distasteful by my standard. I also felt like we all have some kinds of secrets, and we all should try to keep them as such, by trying not to talk about them in any kind of public places, because our secrets can always be used against us.
